About the Area

Kapteinskloof is a fertile valley at the foot of the Piketberg mountain range. We are surrounded by a working blueberry farm. Birdlife is plentiful. Kapteinskloof has an abundance of wild flowers in the spring and it is an excellent base for further exploration of the West Coast and Namaqualand flower regions.

40 km to the West lies Velddrif, Port Owen and the sea with kilometers of unspoilt beaches.

Piketberg is about 35km to the east where you can do some basic grocery shopping. From here it is only a short drive up the Versfeld Pass to the top of Piketberg mountain, which is a beautiful fruit and protea growing area.

The quaint, little town of Aurora is famous for its colourful spring flower display.

Elands Bay lies about 80km to the north west, famous as a cult surf spot and for it’s magnificent crayfish. The nearby Verlorenvlei is a Ramsar site of national importance and a birdwatchers paradise which provides habitat for over 200 bird species.
